“1 Thing”, is a program that our parent company, Entercom, has established. It’s “one thing” we can all do to help the environment. My latest 1 Thing, automatically adjusting my thermostat to reduce electricity and natural gas costs is working. I’m noticing both my electricity and my natural gas bills are lower this year versus last year. I drop my house temperature down four degrees when I go to work and leave it down all day until we are home again in the evening. I’ve also turned down the setting on my hot water heater so I’m not keeping the hot water as hot. Sometimes we fail to remember that the hot water heater is keeping the water hot all the time, even when we’re not home or on vacation. I’m a fan of the budget plan at Dominion Power. That keeps my electricity bill the same all year instead of really low in the winter and really high in the summer. You might check into it and let us know about your 1 Thing.
It’s going to be an exciting week and an exciting month. Tomorrow, I go back to Drs. Klar and Dr. Voorhees for an Invisalign appointment. I have my last set of trays in now and my teeth look amazing. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I’ve wanted straight teeth again for a long time. I had braces as a kid, but my teeth drifted and got crooked again. Later this month, we go back on Daylight Savings Time. That’s at 2 am on March 14th to be exact. We’ll move our clocks ahead one hour and have another hour’s worth of daylight in the evening. It will be nice to drive home from work in the daylight again. Spring also begins later this month so it should start to warm up nicely. The average temperatures for our area later this month are usually right around 60 degrees.

This past Monday night, Karen and I went to the Black Eyed Peas show at the Hampton Coliseum with some friends. Before the show, we had a great dinner in Hampton. The show was packed full of people of all ages from 6 to 60. It was a very impressive production. The show had a “technology” theme which was cool. I thought the sound could have been a lot better. It was like listening to one giant sub-woofer that you’d rather not hear in someone else’s car as they drive by you. It was still a fun night and I’m glad we went. I’ve gotten spoiled during the course of my career which I admit. Here’s a picture from our seats that came out pretty good. Don.

Tonight, I’m going to see the Black Eyed Peas with Karen at the Hampton Coliseum. They take the stage at 9:15 pm if you’re going to the show. There’s a special “Fergie” set where she performs her solo hits to it’s like two concerts in one. We’ll be going out to dinner ahead of time with friends in Hampton before the show. We had a great weekend. Saturday night, we went to a special community service recognition event for one of our sister stations, WVKL. Here’s a shot of Karen and I from the event. Have a great week. Don.

Don and Karen in downtown Norfolk Saturday night. The suit on Don was a rental.

Did you have to work yesterday, President’s Day? I hope not. What did you do for Valentine’s Day? I went out for a nice dinner Saturday night, and then on Sunday, we went out for pizza after an indoor soccer game marathon. We decided to have pizza. One of my favorites and in celebration of the big holiday, the restaurant was preparing heart shaped pizza pies which I referred to as the “Love Pizza”. They were quite tasty! Hope you had a great weekend. Don.

It was another great Hampton Roads weekend for me with the exception of the weather… How was your weekend? I watched a movie, caught up on tasks around the house, went the the Home and Flower Show at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and had lunch at the ocean front with Karen. It’s been a few months since I’ve been down there. We ate at one of our favorite ocean front spots, “Pi – Pizzeria”, which by the way we’ve had on Hampton Roads Perks where you can save 50% off and more on food, spa treatments, home repair, and more. Check out Hampton Roads Perks at www.2wd.com . Here we are counting the days until the warm summer time weather returns!

Last week, I got to take a long weekend in Southern California. I met Karen out there. We had a great time. The weather was perfect, sunny, dry, temps in the mid 60’s to low 70’s. We had a lot of fun exploring, seeing some sights, shopping, eating, and relaxing. I’ve been to Southern California many time and had always wanted to go out on the Santa Monica Pier and had never made it out there. This time, we made it! Have a great weekend. Enjoy the big game!

Tonight is movie night. I’m going to a special screening of “Edge of Darkness” with my buddies. It’s the new action, drama, thriller from Mel Gibson. According to MSNBC.com, Mel Gibson says (regarding acting) “It’s more lucrative. It’s fun. It’s my first love,” Gibson told Hello! magazine of his decision to get back in front of the cameras. “I took time away — I felt that I was stale — and I came back and I feel like some kind of maturation happened.” The trailers for the movie look great. I’ll let you know what I think about it and of course I’ll be looking to www.imdb.com for the rating as I always do. Mel Gibson was one of the many celebrities to donate their time for the Haiti relief TV special last Friday night. Have a great week. Don.

We’re asking every man, woman and child in Hampton Roads to donate $1 dollar to the American Red Cross International Relief Fund. It’s something we can all do and together, we can raise $1.5 MILLION DOLLARS to help this devastated country. The news reports are so sad and there is more tragedy ahead as people with infections that go untreated die. If there are any survivors that haven’t been found yet, they are right on the edge of possible survival and that’s a big IF at this point. Have you heard of the rule of “4’s” regarding human survival? We can, on the average, live for about 4 minutes without air, 4 days without water and 40 days without food. The people providing aid in Haiti are simply amazing. This is a challenge what will go on and on for a very long time. Please do what you can to help. Thank you! Don.
